You’ve opened my heart
To Live and to Love
And start each day with a hug
You taught me to see and embrace who I am
And to push through hard times, believing ‘I can’
With you by my side I could do anything
I admit I feel lost now that you’ve gotten your wings.
I believe you are near and live in my heart
I can’t help but miss you since we’re apart
I cherish those times that we lived so freely
Swimming, hugging, playing and running Agility
We touched the world by surviving that crash
Desperately searching through the night to get you back
Refusing to lose another to that tragic event
People around the world, a sleepless night spent.
To fight for your life
To live another day
To reunite, for us to be together
All of us prayed
We all did unite,
With tears on our face
When we caught sight
Of that magical embrace.
From that day forward, we lived as if it were our last
Became World Agility Champions by running Really fast
We overcame life’s really ‘difficult’ stuff
Remembering each day that simply a hug is enough.
We faced our last battle with love, courage and support
Hemangiocarcoma, HSA for short
Though we had only days from the diagnostic report
We made each day count with lots of hugs, and the sort
Everywhere I look reminds me of you, as I hold back a tear
Not a moment goes by that I can’t feel you here
Then I remember, you were never just mine to love and to hold
But rather God’s gift to share, living so fearless and bold
I’m grateful to you and all who loved you
For I’m not the same person, people once knew
I’m bolder (and older) and live and love freely
Through all of your lessons, I’ve learned to love ME.
When you came into my world,
you were a big surprise
I had MY plan,
But YOURS opened my eyes
We had many highs, and survived a few lows
How we made it fun, no one really knows
We traveled and competed for many US Teams
Showing that it’s possible to achieve your dreams
We trained, we tried
And sometimes we cried
We failed, we learned – but we never quit
(Even when the experience felt like sh*t)
Take one step at a time
Just give it a try
It can be big or quite small
Just keep going and give it your all
Learn and adjust – that’s a definite ‘must’
Believe in yourself, TRUST, baby, Trust!
Have faith, be brave and create your vision
Lay out a plan and just start livin’ !
It might not be easy
And may be different than planned
But I WILL keep walking the path
Without you – just Know that I love and really miss you.
